3. anywhere i shadow

The sun and our bodies teach us the first lesson in life. Which is, anything that stands beneath the sun, shadows at some point. There always comes a point in a body’s day where a shadow is cast beneath them. Onto whatever surface they stand above. Unless they’re already in the shade.

Before we had mirrors, we saw our blackened reflection - a figure in the shape of us at our side. Before we had mirrors, all we saw was each other and the shadows.

Things got lonely with just us and when the clock struck dusk, our shadows came out. They never missed an evening. Casting out from our hips, forming pockets of charcoal amongst the colors of the world. It’s golden hour but not for our worst halves.

We learned awhile ago that our partners are our other halves, we are our best halves and our shadows are our worst halves. They are the abyss we shove all of our problems into. We stare at the ground to look our own darkness in the face. We take the negative energy in our minds and send it to another i, in another dimension. The black holes to our selves. Our shadows are our portals transporting our darks from one entity to another.

You are my other half. I am my best half. Our shadows are where we contain our secrets. In the depths of our longing stares. With our shot-in-the-head eyes. Between a bullet and a target.
