5. on karma

this is going to be a story about how sometimes you meet a person and they’re the one for you and sometimes you meet a person and you think they’re the one for you but actually they were just a stepping stone to meeting another one of your soulmates, in the form of friendship, by way of loving.

about falling for a guy who isn’t right for you but it leading you to meeting his brother’s girlfriend who would be the one to change the trajectory of your life in the most unassuming and unexpected circumstances.

about forming a deep bond with your boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend when the 4 of you do ayuhausca in a jungle somewhere, together on vacation.

and how even if it doesn’t happen next january. it’ll happen when you’re 65 and she’s 66. strangers, both divorced. you from the brother and me from my first husband. on a retreat in puerto rico marketed as “going to hell to find heaven, a mission in search of your inner child once you’ve retired.”

either way, we meet at a time when we’re happy but lost. we use one another as mirrors. our reflections scorch us to the ground. we plant seeds and wait for the flowers to grow. we’ll hold onto this memory for the rest of our lives. either as sisters or best friends. either at 33 or 65.
